The Practical Test
Get plenty of instruction and practice. You are learning an important skill; one which may keep you safe for the rest of your driving life. Don't attempt your test until you instructor thinks you are ready. The test has changed in recent years and you will probably need more training than your parents or older brothers and sisters did. Here are the Top Ten reasons for test failure in N. Ireland:
- Poor Observation at Junctions
- Left Reverse - Control
- Steering
- Mirror Changing Direction
- Reverse Parking - Control
- Gears
- Moving Away Safely
- Left Reverse - Observation
- Move Away Under Control
- Normal Driving
As you may already be aware "Independent Driving" is to be introduced into the test. This means that you will be required to drive independently for a 10 minute period. Most likely you will be asked to make your way to a specified destination and you will decide the route for yourself. You must make all decisions about approaches to hazards and timing of signals etc. on your own, but you will not be penalized if you take a wrong turning or get lost. When these changes are implemented the number of manoeuvres will be reduced from 2 to 1.
You can now book your practical test online and find driving test routes at the DVTA website.Good Luck!
